Introduction

Neil Lyners & Associates (RF) (Pty) Ltd, generally known as LYNERS, is a privately owned consulting engineering and project management practice with offices in Paarl, Bellville and George. Lyners also has a presence in Springbok in the Northern Cape.
The company has nearly twenty years' experience in providing consulting and project management services in bulk and public sector infrastructure, recreational- and educational facilities, resorts and housing development projects. In this regard Lyners has concluded contracts with all tiers of Government and the private sector, mainly in the Western Cape. Some projects however had been or are being executed outside the borders of South Africa, notably in the Republic of Chad and Lesotho respectively.

Background

The company was founded by Neil Lyners on 1 March 1999 in Paarl. In May 2000 a 2nd office was opened in Bellville. On 1 May 2014 the practice opened its 3rd formal office in George and on 31 August 2015 an office was established in Springbok in the Northern Cape.

Lyners is a dynamic and expanding company. Today the medium-sized practice provides employment for some 50 professional engineers, technologists, technicians, and a complement of administrative and support personnel.

This growth and diversification within the company has created a synergy that allows it to capitalise on a large pool of resources, expertise, personnel and equipment.

Shareholders

Neil is the founder and CEO of Neil Lyners and Associates (RF) (Pty) Ltd. He obtained his BSc (Eng) (Civil) from the University of Cape Town in 1985, and has spent most of his career in the consulting engineering environment. He served as Western Cape Branch Chairman and Councillor of Consulting Engineers South Africa from 2002 until 2004 and as Councillor on the Board of Boland College from 2006 until 2013. In May 2004, he was elected as a fellow of SAICE in special recognition of his contribution made in the Civil Engineering Industry. At present, he is a Reviewer of the ECSA Professional Advisory Committee and also serves as a member of the Advisory Board of the Faculty of Engineering of Stellenbosch University. Neil is also a member of SABTACO.
Mario had been with the company since its founding and became a shareholder in January 2001. He obtained his BEng (Civil) at the University of Stellenbosch in 1992, a B Eng (Hons) (Water) from the University of Pretoria in 1997 and a diploma in Executive Management from the Business School of Stellenbosch University in 2010. He has extensive experience in the consulting engineering environment.
Fred joined Lyners in November 2001 and has been a shareholder since March 2003. He obtained his B Tech (Civil) qualification from Cape Technikon in 1995 and worked in the construction industry before entering the consulting environment in 1994. He has extensive experience in both civil engineering contracting and consulting.
Ermelinde obtained the Higher Diploma in Education at the University of the Western Cape in 1990. She has been and educator for many years and was the Head of Department (Life Sciences) at Simunye Secondary School. Her knowledge and expertise will be used to great effect in skills development, mentoring and social development in the build environment.

The company implements a quality management system (QMS) in terms of SANS 9001:2008 (ISO 9001:2008) and is certified as compliant by the SABS. This QMS exceeds the minimum requirements of the CESA.

Memberships & Professional Associations

Lyners is a member of Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA) and an affiliate member of the Association of Municipal Electricity Utilities (AMEU) and adheres to the respective associations' policies and codes of ethics.
All Members are registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ESCA).
All clients and future clients can also be assured that the practice is fully covered for professional indemmity insurance through AON.
Lyners encourages all its technical personnel to be members of the South African Institution of Civil Engineering or other appropriate learned societies.

Transformation & Empowerment

Lyners is committed to black economic empowerment and the development and training of historically disadvantaged individuals (HDIs). Today the majority of the company's equity is vested with HDIs and more than a third of technical and professional staff are HDIs. Emphasis is also placed on increasing representation of female technical and professional staff.
The company earmarks a sizeable proportion of its payroll for skills development and training of all personnel, as well as offering internships and bursaries for historically disadvantaged students with the aptitude and potential. Lyners is commited to supporting emerging businesses in the built environment sector and dedicates time and resources to enterprise and supplier development.
The company has signed a Commitment and Undertaking with ECSA with regard to the latter's mentorship programme for the development of young professional and technical staff in preparation for their professional registration.
